Het Kolenhok (The Coalshed) is a multidisciplinary project that breaks the silence surrounding intergenerational trauma in my family. As a third-generation descendant of grandparents affiliated with the NSB (the Dutch National Socialist party) during World War II, I carry the imprint of a history I did not live.
The secret of this past created a legacy of unspoken pain and shame that continues to affect generations to follow. Presented as an archive installation with a publication, alongside four carbon prints and a moving image performance in collaboration with Sjaan Flikweert, the project opens broader conversations about memory, accountability and healing.
