Me, You, In-Between
Description
This work can be read as a conversation between my father’s gaze as a photographer looking at me while growing up and my study of the bond between daughters and their fathers. It is about grief, family dynamics, letting go and connecting. Since my father’s passing, a box full of his negatives and prints has been untouched in my attic. Its content was something I had never looked at, but for this project, it became its core material.
Working on it reframed my perspective, as was imposed by societal standards, of what a father-daughter relationship means to me. By reusing archival material in collages, I created new storylines and new memories intuitively, which were based on my feelings and experiences while working on this project.
